Ashley Warner has been a practicing licensed cosmetologist since 2008. As an Independent contractor she began specializing in geriatric haircare at the beginning of 2021. Shortly after beginning this path it became apparent that the structuring of salon procedures in skilled nursing facilities needed to be reevaluated. Through research, trial and error she developed a means to comfortably provide all services in the salon extending to the bedside of immobilized residents. One lingering concern still weighing on Ashley‘s heart is that many residents have very little to zero funds and even go without financial support from family. Everyone deserves an equal opportunity to salon self-care. Through The Geriatric Hair Care Organization, residents will be relieved of the financial burden associated with routine haircuts, detangling, shampooing and scalp treatments.

Mission
Our goal is to expand all over Ohio in order to preserve the dignity of our elderly community. The Geriatric Hair Care Specialists offer hair care to hospital patients as well! If we can ensure access to proper scalp and hair care every resident and patient can look and feel their best throughout their healing process. Through the lens of The Geriatric Hair Care Organization, the vision is that people with mental and physical restrictions rest well with cleanliness and maintained hair. “We believe Haircare is Healthcare.”

Routine scalp care is important because aged adults are more vulnerable to developing seborrheic dermatitis. In the elderly, the immune system naturally weakens. When the body has suffered from a chronic illness it becomes more restricted in its ability to prevent fungal growth from affecting the scalp. Inflammation may occur, leading to shedding of the scalp as well as traveling to face and neck.
The Scalp Treatment is a shampoo wash regimen every resident receives for every service. We wash with Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo, twice if needed and exfoliate the scalp with a scalp brush.
It is convenient and safer for Residents remain in their chairs at the shampoo station. I use an inflatable funnel that rests on the shoulders guiding water into the shampoo bowl. The residents just gently tilt their head back to the best of their ability so water does not drip forward.

Detanging, Haircut, Wash & Style
In this emotional process residents can gain control over tattered tresses with the skills of a Geriatric Hair Care Specialist. Typically a 3 hour process to preserve as much length that is desired. Matting occurs when patient is bed bound and unable to brush their own hair.
